Enjoy views of Governor’s Island and the Statue of Liberty, discover the engineering secrets behind the massive caissons and expansion joints, and finish in the vibrant DUMBO neighbourhood in Brooklyn.

Your mission

Meet your guide: Emily Warren Roebling, the woman who finished the bridge. Travel back to the 1870s through the voice of a remarkable woman. Emily Warren Roebling, the pioneering civil engineer, stepped up to lead the Brooklyn Bridge construction when her husband, Chief Engineer Washington Roebling, fell mysteriously ill. At a time when women were barred from such roles, Emily worked tirelessly, communicating with workers, managing day-to-day construction, and becoming the de facto chief engineer. Her legacy has long been hidden behind the fame of the bridge, but now, you can help her finish the job. Throughout the walk, Emily will appear via your mobile device to guide you across the span, giving life to hidden facts, architectural secrets, and engineering marvels most people miss.
