This project reimagines cultural heritage experiences by leveraging Augmented Reality (AR) technology combined with gaming elements to create an engaging and immersive treasure hunt in the urban environment of Valencia. The interactive experience goes beyond typical tourist hotspots, striving to highlight the city’s lesser-known treasures and current urban culture, including street art, contemporary music creation, and green sustainable practices.
A key innovation is the integration of eco-friendly local shops within the treasure hunts. As participants explore, they collect gems which can be redeemed at eco-conscious locations such as green shops, sustainable restaurants, and eco-friendly food stops. This approach not only encourages the discovery of hidden gems in the local community but also promotes sustainability by supporting businesses that prioritise environmentally friendly practices.
The project also addresses the challenge of climate adaptation in tourism, taking inspiration from the catastrophic floods that affected Valencia in October 2024 and similar events in Greece. It aims to create a replicable model for sustainable, technology-driven cultural tourism that can be applied to cities with a similar profile across Europe and beyond.
